Survey of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning Systems

Show all documents Comparative analysis of knowledge representation and reasoning requirements across a range of life sciences textbooks Background: Using knowledge representation for biomedical projects is now commonplace. In previous work, we represented the knowledge found in a college-level biology textbook in a fashion useful for answering questions. We showed that embedding the knowledge representation and question-answering abilities in an electronic textbook helped to engage student interest and improve learning. To answer that question, we considered four different textbooks, ranging from a below-introductory college biology text to an advanced, graduate-level neuroscience textbook. For these textbooks, we investigated the following questions: 1 To what extent is knowledge shared between the different textbooks? Results: Our existing modeling and reasoning methods apply especially well both to a textbook that is comparable in level to the text studied in our previous work i.

Brachman and Levesque have laid much of the foundations of the field of knowledge representation and reasoning. This textbook provides a lucid and.

A well-focused subject area is referred to as a knowledge domain, for example, medical domain, engineering domain, business domain, etc.. What is known about a situation, e. What types of knowledge is best represented using pictures? We could use a series of pictures to store procedural knowledge, e.

Knowledge representation is at the very core of a radical idea for understanding intelligence. Instead of trying to understand or build brains from the bottom up, its goal is to understand and build intelligent behavior from the top down, putting the focus on what an agent needs to know in order to behave intelligently, how this knowledge can be represented symbolically, and how automated reasoning procedures can make this knowledge available as needed. This landmark text takes the central concepts of knowledge representation developed over the last 50 years and illustrates them in a lucid and compelling way.

Abstract : As part of the information fusion task we wish to automatically fuse information derived from the text extraction process with data from a structured knowledge base. This process will involve resolving, aggregating, integrating and abstracting information - via the methodologies of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning - into a single comprehensive description of an individual or event.

KR is the attempt to provide rich representations of the world and various things in it that supports building programs that are sensitive to the world via these representations.

This is a revised submission after an "accept pending minor revisions", which has now been accepted for publication. The reviews below are for the originally submitted version. The paper describes a very important and influential reasoner system, RacerPro, and thus is of interest for the journal. I am, however, not so sure about the suitability of the style: in particular, I think that, by 1 concentrating on Description Logics and mentioning OWL aspects only in passing and in an incomplete way , 2 adding a lot of historic information on design choices, and 3 discussion what seems like a plethora of features without distinguishing between 'core' and 'also available'; the authors have made the paper rather inaccessible to the semantic web community, and thus to the readers of this journal. Also, shouldn't Hermit be mentioned there?
