As the data are related to elections and are owned by VAA developer Kieskompas, third parties must first get permission from the VAA developer to inspect the data. Visitors of a VAA developed for Utrecht, the fourth largest municipality in the Netherlands, were randomly guided to one of the versions of the tool in which the header type was varied. Framing-effects approach: A theoretical and methodological critique

People gather information about topics of interest from the internet and print media, which employ various news frames to attract attention. One example of a common news frame is the human-interest frame, which emotionalizes and dramatizes information and often accentuates individual affectedness. Our study investigated effects of human-interest frames compared to a neutral-text condition with respect to perceived risk, emotions, and knowledge acquisition, and tested whether these effects can be "generalized" to common variants of the human-interest frame. Ninety-one participants read either one variant of the human-interest frame or a neutrally formulated version of a newspaper article describing the effects of invasive species in general and the Asian ladybug an invasive species in particular. The framing was achieved by varying the opening and concluding paragraphs about invasive species , as well as the headline. The core text about the Asian ladybug was the same across all conditions. All outcome variables on framing effects referred to this common core text.

How can the government influence people to make better decisions about health, wealth and happiness without coercing them? Largely drawing on the psychological research in decision-making, nudges aim at influencing people to make better decisions, while leaving intact their freedom of choice. Since its inception, the idea of nudging has been heavily debated, and experts from various fields have investigated the epistemological, ethical and legal underpinnings of nudge policies. But nudges extend beyond libertarian paternalism, and the present volume investigates some of the issues they raise. It gathers contributions by philosophers, psychologists, economists, neuroscientists and legal scholars, beginning with an invited article by Gerd Gigerenzer, and concluding with a commentary on all articles by Cass Sunstein. This editorial will present the main philosophical debates raised by nudges, and locate the import of the different contributions to this volume in these debates.

The big-fish—little-pond effect BFLPE predicts that equally able students have lower academic self-concepts ASCs when attending schools where the average ability levels of classmates is high, and higher ASCs when attending schools where the school-average ability is low. BFLPE findings are remarkably robust, generalizing over a wide variety of different individual student and contextual level characteristics, settings, countries, long-term follow-ups, and research designs. Because of the importance of ASC in predicting future achievement, coursework selection, and educational attainment, the results have important implications for the way in which schools are organized e. In response to Dai and Rinn Educ. In its simplest form, the big-fish—little-pond effect BFLPE predicts that students have lower academic self-concepts ASC when attending schools where the average ability levels of other students is high compared to equally able students attending schools where the school-average ability is low.

Framing can manifest in thought or interpersonal communication. Frames in thought consist of the mental representations, interpretations, and simplifications of reality. Frames in communication consist of the communication of frames between different actors. Framing is an integral part of conveying and processing data on a daily basis.
